All things da Vinci

greg greg @ 8:59 am — Filed under:

It is pretty amazing the amount of information on historical figures there is on the internet. I think this will be one of one of the legacies of the net, it the tremendous documentation (good and bad) that is going on.

Here are some sketches by Leonardo da Vinci

Personally I really like the gradations from the 16th century

Google gets more hype than any company on the planet, but this photo essay of the Googleplex is very interesting. I guess it shows that if you can attract the brightest people and perhaps have their attention 20% of the time, then good things will happen.

Nice CSS Tip

Seems that every one has their own legitimate way of organizing code that does not have a specific linear order. I find the only thing better than hours of mind numbing all nighters is to check out other developers practices. Here is a nice one on css organization.

Class Conflicts

tim tim @ 9:22 am — Filed under:

There is an old issue that we all hoped Macrodobia would have fixed in the release of Flash 8. The issue of classes conflicting due to the server timestamp being a few minutes ahead of your local timestamp will cause Flash to spit out a class conflict error. This little extension will alieviate all of your woes:

Once installed, this extension will add two commands to the “Commands” menu in Flash called “Clear ASO and Compile” and “Clear ASO cache”.

Since installing this extension, I have not had an issue.

LA driving - from joy to despair in 2 hours

jay jay @ 9:32 am — Filed under:

Yesterday I drove to Camarillo, CA for a meeting. On the way back I decided to forego the freeway and try the scenic route down highway 1. I figured it would be good for my brain to see the ocean for a few and drive through Malibu.

The first hour was simply glorious. There is truly no time more beautiful in California than in the winter and early spring. The air is crisp and the sun is bright. (and there are fewer people) I stopped and got a coffee and cruised at a nice speed through all of Malibu and into Santa Monica. I got some good clear thinking time in and was feeling refreshed and ready to dive into the rest of my day.

Then the second hour. I hit the 10 freeway at about 4pm. It quickly became a total disaster. Stop-and-go for the next 1:15. Looking around, it is hard to believe I could so quickly be in a place that was so drastically different. Rude people looking pissed off and not letting me change lanes. The dirt and grime of LA in full force. My mood rapidly changed. The joyful refreshed feeling I had at the coast was swept away. I began to get physically uncomfortable. My feet ached. I was getting downright angry. Towards the end I started talking to myself and yelling at other cars to “move!”. It was not pretty.

In the words of Jon Stewart… “Damn you Los Angeles!!!!!”
