One Reason Why Apple Will Be Making Hardware in 2010

greg greg @ 5:46 pm — Filed under:

Nicely reasoned article up over at applematters, but the one reason there will be Apple Hardware in 2010 is that they are the only manufacturer who can seem to project a sophisticated brand and create aesthetically pleasing hardware. The more the computer moves into the living room, and the kitchen, the more important the look and feel of the hardware become. The 5% of market share that apple now owns will not disappear, because they like the feel of the hardware. If anything, it seems more logical that Apple abandons OSX and just makes hardware that people love. How many IMACs would they sell if they ran windows.

Also, I think this argument is contrary to the last 20 years of apple history. They have always leveraged their hardware to get users to buy the software and vice versa. It worked with the ipod. would 30 million people own ipods if they had rolled out the IPOD OS and not married it with the hardware that looked and felt the bill. The strategy seems to be more powerful as computing moves more towards appliance and away from the kit cars that PC’s are today. Of course I could be totally wrong.

BlueMarble.com - Socially Responsible Investing

jay jay @ 6:58 am — Filed under:

We’re very proud to have been a part of the launch of www.bluemarble.com. The site was designed by Caroline Chen of ChenGrafix. We’ve been working with Arturo Tabuenca of Blue Marble to optimize the site and finalize the Flash and PHP/MySQL production for the site. The site is deceptively complex, with plenty of dynamic Flash content and smart forms, polls, market data, etc.

We feel fortunate not only to have worked on this project, but to have learned about Blue Marble and the world of Socially Responsible Investing - which we knew nothing about before (at least I didn’t). SRI has shown incredible growth in the massive investment industry and it is good for all the right reasons. Good for the earth. Good for humanity. Good, sound investments in companies with an eye toward the long-term. Why wouldn’t you choose to put your money into companies that are thinking 10, 20, 50 years into the future and planning now to keep our rainforests around, and making conscious choices not to support sweatshops, etc.

It just makes sense.

So read up about Blue Marble - the story of its creation, the world of SRI, and sign up for the wonderful Out of the Blue newsletter.

This idea is for real. And its time has come.
Cheers.
