The Cult of the Mac (Store)

greg greg @ 4:14 pm — Filed under:

Well, my 20″ imac had a faulty powersupply which has lead me to the mac store to get it fixed. I have 15 minutes to kill before it is done so here is the story.

Setting the stage.
I am in the Apple Store in Costa Mesa, writing on a rediculous 30″ lcd monitor. I think one could dislocate a shoulding trying to navigate the mouse around this thing, it is that big.

We all know (some love, some hate) Apple’s heavenly white product design which creates some sort of Utopia for the legions of mac fanatics but it thought the process of getting a reservation at the Apple Genious Bar was pure Apple at its best.

First, you have to sign up online for your appointment online through the most minimal signup process ever. Of course yesterday when i really wanted to get it in, it was full, but i scored a 12:40 appointment today which worked for my meeting in Irvine at 2.

So, when you get to the store, there is my name “Greg S.” all lite up like a ipod commercial on a 42″ plasma display with the cloudly background animating behind.

My Genious is of course sort of cool geek, smart enough to believe me that my powersupply is having problems and pretty much schedules it for a replacement. Of course it is under warrenty, but in order to get it back in 3 hours instead of 3 days i have to take a dose of Apple Coolaid and purchase their pro care plan for $99 which is ok. I would go into withdrawls without my dose of blogs in the mornings.

Some of my favorite things about the Apple Store.

1) The 4 moms/grandmas currently learning how to edit their home videos
2) The local high school kids just hanging outside the store.
3) How many people are in this place on a tuesday at 3pm
4) The free internet
5) The 5 song loop that plays over the loud speakers.
6) The unintended really loud blasts of music that come from the new apple HiFi (Second only to Guitar Center)
7) How cool they think their wireless credit card processors are

That it from the remote posting…

Election day in Long Beach

Well well. According to the yard signs, I have 2 choices. I either want “no more excuses”, or I want “no more business as usual”. I simply can’t decide.

Why, oh, why do elections have to be this mundane?

And in case you missed it.. this mayoral candidate’s statement is one of the most enjoyable I’ve read. But I’m not telling why.

Red Loft Studios : Not your Mother’s Wedding Photography

Red Loft StudiosWe are very proud to announce the latest JLOOP launch - Red Loft Studios.

Jenny Stafford and her outstanding studio of photographers were a complete joy to work with and we’re really happy with the result. JLOOP was involved in creating the entire package - from the new Identity Package to the entire Website Concept and Design.

A little about Red Loft and our approach: Red Loft Studios is a Wedding Photography Studio like none other. In an industry dominated by cheese, Red Loft is fresh, modern, fun, and full of personality. In an online landscape dominated by dark dramatic wedding portraiture and lookalike photojournalism - Red Loft wanted to stand apart. The challenge was to communicate the artistic approach of the photographers with an implicit understanding that Red Loft is much much more than pictures - that hiring Red Loft for your wedding is a significant and personal decision that will pay off in meaningful ways deeper than the resulting prints. We decided on a focus that was personality-driven, irreverent, colorful, responsive, and in complete contrast to the rest of the industry.

As always… let us know what you think. We’re looking forward to seeing where the future will take this outstanding photography studio.

Coming soon…. How about some food to go with that wedding?
