The remote is not an effective input device and no one wants to sit on their couch with a keyboard. Some big advances will be necessary, on the scale of invention of the mouse. Come to think of it, the Wii is probably the first step in this process. Those paddles it has provide a naturally intuitive way to interact with complex system.
